About the Workshop

This workshop is for any artist who wants to create one-of-a-kind prints, a series of
related images, or variable editions. A wide range of printmaking techniques will be
introduced each day. Demonstrations will include monotypes using additive, reductive,
and viscosity methods for a painterly or graphic approach. The drypoint process will
appeal to those who love to draw. Stencils, carborundum, and found materials will be
introduced for the collage-type artist. In addition, using Chine Cole with photo images,
drawings, or illustrations from an inkjet or laser printer always adds excitement.

Participants will explore a variety of inking, wiping, and rolling techniques, beginning
with a simple single plate, and moving to more complex multiple registered plates.
Demos and discussions will also include the properties of individual pigments and an
understanding of the characteristics of Akua soy-based inks and modifiers. Participants
will have the option to print with an etching press or hand-printing tools. All materials
used in the workshop are fume-free and clean up easily with soap and water. Beginners
to advanced printmakers welcome.
