This observation based class involves various approaches to seeing and expressing. We will work thin, thick, quick, slow, voluminous, flat, tonal, narrative — until you’ve broken out of habits that may be holding you back. Acrylics only. Painting is from the nude model.

Katy Schneider, raised in NYC, is a painter and art professor (32 years) at Smith College. She is a recipient of a Guggenheim and a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship, and of awards from the National Academy of Design and the Academy. Her work focuses on themes related to her upbringing: making the most of a small space, organizing chaos and uncovering family dynamics. Her work is in numerous collections, including The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, the New Britain Museum and the Smith College Museum of Art. She has also illustrated several award winning children’s books. Among various awards she received the prestigious Bank Street College of Education’s Book Award. Katy Schneider paints intimate scenes, mostly from her 6 foot by 8 foot studio in her basement. Katy Schneider
